Our continuing relationships with Tsingshan Metallurgical New Material Research Institute has paved way for extensive R&D at Stellar. The R&D center has more than 80 sets of advanced testing instruments and equipment. Dr. Lai-Zhu Jiang, former chairman of the ISO "Committee on Corrosion of Metal and Alloys" TC156, serves as the president. The R&D center has more than 700 R&D personnel, including 112 senior engineers. This innovative team takes accounts for covering our product research and development, technical services, and manufacturing management, and specializing in stainless-steel manufacturing process improvement, quality improvement, and new product development.

In 2008, we invented the RKEF+AOD process so that the cost of stainless-steel manufacturing was reduced by 20%. The invention is a technique for smelting stainless steel. It particularly relates to a novel technique for smelting stainless steel through an RKEF and AOD furnace duplex process. Stellar is constantly overcoming difficulties by creating a relentless pursuit of technological breakthroughs such as the "RKEF+AOD" process, which set a new benchmark for the cost of global stainless-steel manufacturing, ensuring competitive prices over the world.

In 2019, we developed the world's first high-nitrogen austenitic stainless steels with high strength – QN series, including QN1701, QN1803, QN1804, QN1906, and QN2109. With their high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, these products have won high recognition and widespread praise from the customers. They were successfully used in six fields, including plate & strip, decorative welded pipe, wire rod, steel bar, shaped steel, and seamless pipe billet. This product line has become the group standard of the China Iron and Steel Association.

In 2018, the R&D team first launched the high-nitrogen, high-corrosion resistant, nickel-saving austenitic stainless steel, a significant technical innovation in the history of stainless-steel development.

There was no domestic supply of nib steel which resulted in a long-term monopoly of importing the product. In 2020, with the launching of the first environment-friendly, high-cutting performance nib steel QF24Sn, the long-term importing was finally lain to rest.
